Discover Diving FAQ

1. Do I need to know how to swim?
No. It is helpful but not mandatory for the Discover Scuba program.

2. Can I participate if I am a non-swimmer?
Yes, as long as you are not afraid of being in the water you will be fine.

3. Is any previous diving experience required?
No, this is a Discover Scuba program that is designed for people with no previous experience.

4. What do I need to bring?
Just your swimming trunks.

5. Will this program make me a certified diver? Will I get my PADI Open Water certification after completing this program?
No. This is the Discover Scuba program that gives you an introduction to the world of diving.  This is an opportunity to try diving without going through the entire certification process.

6. How long does it take to get certified as a diver and how much does it cost?
Open Water certification takes 2 weekends and typically costs about $500 - $600.

7. I'm going on vacation. Is it okay to take a one or two hour crash course in diving at the resort and go on a dive even if I'm not certified?
No, never.  If you dive without getting certified you are putting your health, and your life, at risk.  Do yourself and your loved ones a favour, and get certified before you dive.  Most responsible dive shops won't rent you gear or oxygen tanks without certification, but there are many, especially in less-developed countries, that will convince you its safe to dive just to make an extra hundred bucks.  Be wise. Dive certified, and stay alive.
